End Jew Hatred Report - Issue 4

August 13, 2021

TIME TO PUT JEW HATERS ON TRIAL FOR ANTISEMITISM

All across Canada, 2021 saw a surge of Antisemitic incidents, including harassment, vandalism and physical violence. According to B’nai Brith Canada, the number of Antisemitic assaults, in May 2021 surpassed the total for all of May 2020.

Canadian Jews watched in disbelief as anti-Israel protests in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal degenerated into ugly confrontations with property and people damaged.

Police intervened as pro-Palestinian protestors targeted smaller groups of pro-Israel counter protesters with rocks, defiled Israeli flags with swastikas and then burned them and chanted hateful slogans like, “Burn Tel Aviv” and “Death to Israel”.

In the GTA, Montreal and Edmonton, car cavalcades with Palestinian flags targeted areas populated by Jews, seeking to harass and intimidate Jewish residents. “This is not my Canada,” declared Michael Levitt, former MP and CEO of the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre. He speaks for all of us.

Jewish activists plan their rallies to strictly adhere to local COVID 19 protocols. The radical anti- Israel activists are ignored by police and politicians as they hold mass, maskless events featuring terrorist slogans, glorification of violence, and even in some places, Nazi paraphernalia.

Students at our top universities no longer feel free to wear any openly Jewish article of clothing or jewellery. They get the fallout as student unions put out statements attacking Israel for defending itself from the terrorist group Hamas, which launches missiles at Israeli citizens.

Toronto District School Board reinstated its Student Equity Program Advisor, Javier Davila, after an investigation into his unapproved circulation of an anti-Israel curriculum. Davila wrote and distributed resources for educators about the Israeli Palestinian conflict. The curriculum guides contained appalling content, including the glorification of violence, praising the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a listed terrorist organization in Canada. No disciplinary action was taken against him.

Our media fuels the fire of Jew hatred. Misinformation, vilifying Israel as the sole aggressor in the conflict with Hamas, distorting reality because the news is devoid of context, applying moral equivalence to Hamas, a genocidal, terrorist proxy of Iran, to Israel a democracy.

“Their sanctimonious ire is only for Israel; there is no similar outcry against Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, Iran and other countries for, in some cases denying Jews and others basic human rights and forbidding Jews from even living there.” Michael Mostyn, CEO of B’nai Brith said.

Our community is consistently the number one target of hate crimes in major cities, yet hardly any coverage of these incidents is reported in mainstream media.

Despite repeated protestations of outrage and support, the authorities fail to prevent or punish hateful rallies targeting Israeli Jews. On Saturday, August 12, a rally was organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, an openly pro-terrorism group that also organized the rally on May 15th where Jewish counter protesters were beaten and bullied.

The BDS movement called by Prime Minister Trudeau,“antisemitic,” is alive and well in Canada. The United Church of Canada and the Quakers are active supporters. The UCC is Canada’s largest Protestant denomination, with more than two million members. Rev. Andrew Love said, “The ugly face of Antisemitism has found a warm embrace in the BDS campaign against Israel.” He is the founder of Bridges Not Boycotts, a group that opposes anti-Israel boycotts, divestment and sanctions policies in liberal Protestant churches.

We don’t need more laws, we have all the laws we need to shut down the perpetrators of lies and hatred. We need these laws fully enforced. It would seem that one can say or do anything to a Jew with impunity. There are no consequences.

Michael Mostyn: “We want to continue feeling safe and welcome in our country as we always have.” This is the mantra, the mission of End Jew Hatred Canada, civil rights for Jews and liberation from hatred and bigotry.
