Annamae Paul, former leader of the Green Party of Canada and first Jewish Black female to lead a national political party, stood up against antisemitism when she refused to target Israel for opprobrium in 2021 and support the antisemitic calls for banning military support for Israel. Her steadfast position, primarily neutral, clearly acknowledging Israel's right to exist and denying the BDS a voice in Green Party policy, cost her the leadership of the party.
